The Tsinghua Art Museum celebrates its fifth anniversary this month. The museum, which opened in 2016 thanks to the generous support of the university and alumni, now has over 13,000 objects in its collection, including spectacular examples of painting, calligraphy, porcelain, furniture, bronzes, and embroidery. Some of the collection highlights include a porcelain cup used by the Kangxi Emperor [r. 1661-1722] and the “Seven-Character Poems” by the Ming-era painter and calligrapher Wen Zhengming (1470-1559). Until October 20, the museum is hosting a special exhibition highlighting the life and work of the architect Liang Sicheng (1901-1972). After completing his studies at the University of Pennsylvania, Liang returned to China where he became a celebrated educator, urban planner, and historic preservationist. Liang was also the founder of the Tsinghua University Department of Architecture.
